Myopia (Short-sightedness) Control
Rapid myopia progression is affecting a lot of children/ teenagers, particularly in Hong Kong. There is no single treatment formula that could work for all children. In order to determine which would be the most effective way to slow down myopia progression, the optometrist must first have a thorough understanding of the child’s visual function status, living habit, ocular health condition and family history. Based on the findings, the optometrist would determine the most suitable way of treatment. For example, orthokeratology, myopic control spectacle lenses (special progressive/ bifocal made for children), or vision therapy if ‘pseudo-myopia’ (a condition which myopia is induced by accommodation dysfunction) is involved.
